Biographical / Historical
The photographers Major J Clifford Griffiths and Sir Melvill Jones, both from The Wirral, were pioneers of aerial photography.
Clifford was in the Royal Flying Corps in the First World War, and was tragically killed at Baginton Airport, Coventry on 20 October 1923 while testing a plane as Armstrong Whitworth’s Chief Test Pilot.
