Biographical / Historical
Stratton St Margaret was granted to Merton College, Oxford by Henry VI in exchange for the manor of Merton Hall in Cambridgeshire. He later granted Merton Hall to King's College at the Foundation with the condition that the estate should be surrendered to Merton College should they be forced to leave Stratton St Margaret, which indeed occurred in 1464. Records of a legal case between the two colleges have been kept - see KCAR/6/2/149 SSM/1.
