Biographical / Historical
Sampford Courtenay manor, advowson and surrounding estates were acquired by exchange in 1570 of the manor of Withyham in Sussex, with Sir Thomas Sackville, then Lord Buckhurst (later Earl of Dorset). Documents relating to the exchange and approval from Queen Elizabeth I are kept under KCAR/6/2/140/6 Title Deeds.
