Biographical / Historical

7,723 acres of agricultural land in Elsham, Lincolnshire, were purchased by the College along with lands in Worlaby in 1925, using funds gained from the sale of most of its other estates. In the College Annual Report for that year, this was described as 'the most important purchase of agricultural land in [the College's] history'. The estate was sold in 1956.

Catalogues for estates which have had many additions made during the year will be re-published approximately annually, and the Archive Centre staff are always happy to conduct up-to-date computer searches for any estate. Related Materials

A significant volume of other twentieth-century material relating to the Elsham and Worlaby estates remains uncatalogued in the College's records store. Please ask the Archivist for details, as it is hoped that a catalogue of this material may be completed in the near future. See KCAR/3/3/8/1/4 for solicitors correspondence. Uncatalogued maps and plans are in 138/9. Further material may be found in the Bursar's subject files, KCAR/3/1/1/8, 9, 10 and 31.
