'Gearing's book', 1697 - 1705
Scope and Contents
Volume comprises memoranda and notes by Provost Roderick from Bursar Thomas Gearing's papers on College governance put together in the mid 17th century, together with Roderick's own thoughts on University affairs. The notes cover, among other things, the visitation of 1674; admission of 'foreigners' to status of M.A., 1705; election of Professor of Hebrew, 1703; removal of E. Hinde from his Fellowship, 1603. At other end is an abridged version of the College statutes. Thomas Gearing was named as King's College Bursar (First, Second or Third by turns) in 1648, 1650-1652, 1655, 1659-1660, 1662-1663, 1665.
