Biographical / Historical
Raymond Inglis Palgrave Barker (April 1889-1959) came up to King's from Rugby in 1908. 'He and his friends formed a little society, limited to ten members, which they called the Nephilim. It had no serious purpose; it existed simply as an excuse for dinners, for golf competitions and for frequent meetings. Barker's sitting room, on the third floor of Staircase X, was the favourite rendezvous, not only because it was slightly larger than those of the other members, but still more because of its genial host'.
