Description of seals
Quantity: 1 seal, double-sided.
Attachment: pendant on a blue and white cord.
Colour: black.
Damage: 4. Much damage.
Shape and size: 110mm x 75mm (remains). Circular.
Impressions: obverse –The left third of the seal is missing. On what remains Henry VI is enthroned and crowned under a central tabernacle, in his left hand is an orb from which rises a long stem with cross crosslet. His throne has two surviving arches with elaborate tracery. The central tabernacle shows Our Lady, crowned, with Christ on her knee above the King’s head. A smaller niche with crocketed pinnacles to the right shows St George standing with a shield of arms, charged with a plain cross. A side tabernacle shows a niche with an oak tree and bird above a shield charged with the arms of France (ancient) and England (quarterly) with a hound below. A man at arms flanks the throne to the right. Reverse - The right third of the seal is missing. On what remains, Henry VI is on horseback galloping to the right. He wears a closed visor helmet surmounted by a lion crest and a tight-fitting surcoat which reaches to the middle of his thigh. In his right hand he carries a sword with a round pommel and short straight quillons attached to his right side by a chain. On his left arm he bears a shield. Legend: obverse - [....]RICUS DEI GRATIA REX FRAN[....] [....]. Reverse - [....] FRANCIE ET ANGLIE DNS HIB[....].
