Biographical / Historical
The Research Committee was appointed on 27 May 1994 following the report to Council of the Working Party on research. The membership of the Committee is: The Provost; the Bursar; the Senior Tutor; at least one other member of Council; An Elector; The Convenor (or another manager) of the Research Centre; At least one member of the Governing Body who is not a member of the Council, the Electors to Fellowships or the Research Centre's Committee of Management. The terms of reference for the Committee are: - to present the research case in the annual budgetary round, and advise on priorities between different forms of research expenditure; - to channel Council recommendations on subjects for external Research Fellowship competitions; - to advise the Council on opportunities for the appointment of joint research/teaching Fellows; - to consider the policies of the Research Centre as part of the overall research of the College; - to advise the Council regarding overall expenditure on Research; - to address longer term and broader issues including, but not limited to, such matters as a) keeping under review any changes in the University which affect relations between colleges, research students and their supervision; b) promoting discussion of new ways in which the College might foster research.
