Biographical / Historical
The earliest minutes of the Chetwynd Society in the archive date from the 1920s, but we have photographs of the society from the 1890s. The minutes suggest a society formed for conversation, drinking and song, sometimes into the early hours. A memoir of Boris Ord, director of music, mentions the society as 'a crowd of undergraduates bent upon an evening of gaiety of speech and conduct'.
