This file comprises:
(HB/L/9/c) Letter from Dwight Macdonald to T.S. Eliot seeking Eliot's support for an attack on the opponents of 'modernism' (including Archibald MacLeish) in the 'Partisan Review'.
(HB/L/9/d) Correspondence concerning T.S. Eliot's chair at the Library of Congress, comprising a letter from Archibald MacLeish, Librarian of Congress, 9 May 1944, on T.S. Eliot having a Consultantship or Chair at the Library for a year and T.S. Eliot's reply 29 May 1944. It also includes a letter from T.S. Eliot to Frank Morley enquiring about the nature of the appointment, Whit Monday (29 May) 1944.

The items comprising 9c (letter from MacDonald) and 9d (letters concerning Library of Congress chair) were placed in the same envelope by a previous archivist, presumably because Archibald MacLeish featured in both. This arrangement has been retained.
