Scope and Contents
Most of these letters are housed with their envelopes. GHWR annotated many of them with the letter writer's full name and occupation and, occasionally, a note of any part he or she played in his theatrical productions. Letters from GHWR to other people are catalogued in the GHWR/X section, except the letters to his mother (GHWR/3/364).

Conditions Governing Access
The majority of the Rylands Papers are readily available to scholars in the Archive Centre. Record consultation is by appointment. Personal letters of living authors may only be consulted with their written permission. Some material is reserved in view of its sensitivity. There is no access to such material for the time being.
