Diaries, 1922 - 2003
Scope and Contents
This series contains both typescripts and manuscripts of the diaries Frances Partridge kept from 1927 to 2001. For most of the diaries, the typescript only survives. The manuscripts were probably destroyed by Frances Partridge as soon as she was happy with their typed or published version. For the final years of her life, only manuscript notebooks have been transferred to the archive. The series of diaries has been divided into two sections: diaries (the journals kept regularly but not each day) and engagement diaries (in the form of printed annual diaries).

Conditions Governing Access
Certain diaries are closed under the terms of the Data Protection Act (1998) because they contain sensitive information about living individuals. Researchers may apply in writing to the Archivist to see the closed material, stating the intended use and precise nature of the information requested. The Archivist and Frances Partridge's Literary Executor will then consider whether non-sensitive parts of the diary may be made available. Please be aware that this decision may take several weeks and may incur photocopying charges. A statement to this effect is given with each closed file.
