Scope and Contents
Ancient theatre, partly restored, upon which people are acting [an Italian translation of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'] in modern dress. Eight free-standing columns are visible at the back of the stage area. E.M. Forster is sitting, watching the performance, at the bottom of steps on the left and there is a similar set of steps framing the scene on the right. Taken at Theatre [of Agrippa and Septimius Severus], Ostia, Italy. Print, 12.7 x 9. Inscribed on back, by E.M. Forster, 'Theatra Ostia Antica / Un Sogno di una mezzo notte di Estate'. (Sleeve 297)
