Fishing boat at sea, looking towards the stern, with Peter Pears wearing a white pullover on the left, sitting on the side of the boat, profile to the right, laughing. E.M. Forster is beyond him, his right elbow on the side of the boat, also looking to the right. A small boy wearing a knitted cap is at the tiller, looking to the right. Benjamin Britten sits beside him, full face, and Bill Burrell wearing a white cap, profile to the left, is sitting on the side opposite E.M. Forster, the object of the others' attention.
