Group photograph of Lady Allen [of Hurtwood, 1897-1976], E.M. Forster, Ralph Vaughan Williams and unnamed bandmaster standing together in the grounds of Milton Court, Dorking, site of the pageant England's Pleasant Land. Behind are trestle tables and a folding wooden chair and to the right are three band members with music stands in front of them. Lady Allen is wearing a headscarf, profile to the right in front of E.M. Forster, who is leaning on an umbrella and wearing a suit and cloth cap. Ralph Vaughan Williams is wearing a dark hat and raincoat, the bandmaster is in uniform. Taken at Milton Court, Dorking. Print, 20.1 x 14.7. Inscribed on back, by E.M. Forster, with names and 'Milton Court, 1938', but Lady Allen's surname has been torn away with the paper backing. (Sleeve 199)
