Photograph of unnamed Indian sunnyasi. His arms are outstretched vertically, showing signs of atrophy. Taken at Benares. Commercial photograph, 28.2 x 21.3. Inscribed on back, by Goldsworthy Lowes Dickinson, 'Benares Dec. / 12. This chap, I was told, had lost the power ever to let his arms down. They've grown like that into a malformation. 'Tantum religio'. He was an educated man, and an ex-government official. I did not see him'. (Sleeve 127)
