Photograph of Maimie Aylward and Maggie Preston (her half-sister) in front of a garden wall bearing espalier fruit trees. Both looking to the left. One is seated (perhaps Maggie Preston), wearing a dark hat, beads and checked skirt. The other is standing (perhaps Maimie Aylward) behind and to the left of her, wearing a buckled belt, dark skirt and no hat. Mounted on card, 10.1 x 6.2 (photograph 8.8 x 5.8). Inscribed on back, in unidentified hand, 'RH Inglis Synnot / phot: / 1866', inscribed in album, by E.M. Forster, 'Maimie and Maggie Preston' and inscribed on back, by E.M. Forster, 'Maimie and Meg'.
