Professional studio portrait of E.M. Forster sitting on the wooden trestle table seen in EMF/27/643-4 with his ?spectacles case in his hands, looking up and to the left at Bob Buckingham, who is standing slightly behind and to the left of E.M. Forster, wearing a spotted tie, with his right foot up on the trestle table and his right arm on his knee, looking down and to the right at E.M. Forster. Taken at New York. The photograph is annotated on the back: '1947 with Bob' in E.M. Forster's writing, corrected in pencil to 'actually 1949' in an unknown hand, and 'E.M. Forster and Bob Buckingham' in another unknown hand. Print, 23.5 x 19.1. (Sleeve 242a)

Immediate Source of Acquisition
This photograph was transferred in September 2022 by Bonham's who had received some documents from the estate of Forster's friend and biographer, P.N. Furbank, for sale. Because of the stamp on the back of the photograph ('King's Coll. Libr. Camb.') the owner allowed it to be sent it back to the College.
