Scope and Contents
Letters between Margaret (Peggy) Steadman, later Ross, and her boyfriend, later husband, Robert (Bob) Ross when she was a student at Cambridge Training College, then assistant classics mistress at St Mary's and St Anne's Boarding School for Girls, Abbots Bromley, Staffordshire; and after their marriage in 1939 when they were separated during World War II. Also letters from her to her parents John and Edith Ross and her sister Barbara whilst she was at Newnham and then from Cambridge Training College and Saint Mary's and St Anne's school. There is also memorabilia from her student days including exam papers and lecture notes; and testimonials for colleges and teaching posts.

Biographical / Historical
Margaret Helen Steadman (Mrs Robert Ross) 18 May 1914 - 25 September 2010.
Margaret Steadman read classics at Newnham College from 1933 - 1936. She then trained as a teacher at Cambridge Training College before taking up a post as assistant classics mistress at Saint Mary's and Saint Anne's Boarding School for Girls where she taught for 2 years until her marriage to Robert Ross in September 1939. She gave up her post as married women were not allowed to teach at that time.
This collection covers her last year as a student at Newnham, her teacher training year and her 2 years of teaching. In addition there are letters between Margaret and Robert Ross when they were apart during World War II.
