Prinicipal's Reports and Letters Book, 1933 - 1960
Scope and Contents
This volume contains reports and handwritten notes written primarily by College Principal, Alice Skillicorn (and possibly the first few entries written by Mary Allan) and includes details of praise for Allan's "foresight and preparation", October1935 (p. 13); the forthcoming retirement of Miss Waterhouse, March 1937 (p. 19); the end of the geography diploma, October 1938 (p. 27); the college's involvement with the Cambridge Refugee Committee in March 1939 (p. 31); a training school for refugee women from "Czech" (Czechia) and Germany (p. 34) and the arrival of seven students from "Rhodesia" (Zimbabwe), March 1939; the death of former board of trustee from member 1894-1908, Mr Gilbert Jennings, at the age 92, June 1940 (p. 38); vice president report while Principal Skillicorn is in the U.S.A. from October to December 1952; foreign students Josephine Kwayke (Ghana), Chusiri Chamoraman (Thailand) and Elisabeth Richards (Chile) (p. 86 insert); adoption of a refugee family by the college (a man from Lithuania, his wife from Germany and their six children), for which the students raised money that allowed the family to move to a house in Ruhr, October 1959 (p.117).
