Iakovos Zarraftis: Compilations of texts and correspondence, 1898-1942
Dates
- Creation: 1898-1942
Arrangement
Correspondence is gathered in chronological order in its own dedictaed file, unless a letter specifically accompanied a package of transcribed material from Zarraftis, in which case it forms an integral part of that textual record. In the latter instance, a letter will therefore be lodged in the file pertaining to a particular group of texts, identified by the origin island then, if the largest i.e. Kos, the type of text (Folktales or 'other'/varied).
General
Sometimes Zarraftis dated his texts and letters with both the Julian and Gregorian calendar dates. (Greece adopted the Gregorian calendar in 1923.) If only one date is given, it is presumed to be the Gregorian calendar, the habitually courteous Zarraftis thereby accomodating his English readers' (Rouse and his sister) usual calendar.
