Reference Code: GBR/3437/MCNE/2/3/10

Scope and Contents

This group of drawings all depict terracotta figurines. The first group were excavated in 1939, one from the Prinaria and the rest originating in the Atreus Bothros, which cut across the dromos of the Treasury of Atreus. They were drawn by C. K. Williams in 1957. Also in 1957, Williams drew figurines from the 1952 excavation of the Prehistoric Cemetery. The third group were drawn by P. de Jong in 1955 and feature figurines mostly from the House of Sphinxes, with one from the Epano Phournos tomb. Finally, figurines excavated in 1959 from the Citadel House area were drawn by C. K. Williams. These fall outside the parameters of A. J. B. Wace’s excavations but are an integral part of this album. The group was collated by E. B. W. French, who had made terracotta figurines the subject of her doctoral research.
