Scope and Contents

1955 Excavation Notebook for the Atreus Ridge area and House of Lead compiled by Reynold Higgins. Daily notes on excavation on r., sketch plans and basket numbers on v. At the back, with notebook turned upside down, papse notes. When the handwriting becomes neat and legible, these entries - lists of Fruit Trays - are by E. B. (Lisa) Wace. Also at back, list of site photographs required.

Biographical / Historical

Higgins (1916-1933) read Classics at Pembroke College, Cambridge and later became Assistant Keeper 1947, Deputy Keeper 1965-1977, of Greek and Roman Antiquities at the British Museum.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

Green cloth cover (Heffer's notebook), handwritten in pencil and ink, 17.5 x 19.5 cm Unfoliated, ff.112 in total. Half the notebook is unused. Fragile, p. 1 separated from text block, remains in place. Cover also detaching from text block, front cover has a deep vertical crease.
