1954 Excavation Notebook for the House of Sphinxes and the House of the Oil Merchant compiled by E. B. (Lisa) Wace. Book 1 of 2. Daily account of excavation on r. and sketch plans and small finds notes on v. Observations primarily focus on House of Sphinxes rooms 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, corridor and the North Wall. House of the Oil Merchant notes included between entries for House of the Sphinxes. Extensive papse notes for both Houses at the back of the notebook.
4 inserts: 2 scaled plans in pencil on tracing paper originally pasted in at p. 58 and p.77 dated July 1954;
2 folios of typescript correspondence between AJBW and Dr Hans Helbaek (Copenhagen) dated 3rd and 19th November 1954, regarding sampling seeds found during the 1954 excavations.

Black weatherproof cover, handwritten in ink and pencil, 18 x 22.5 cm Paginated with uneven numbers on r., ff.91 in total. Entire notebook used. 4 inserts: 2 leaves tracing paper removed from notebook and placed in separate archival folder, as the pressure tape securing them was brittle and no longer adhesive. 2 leaves correspondence unfolded and placed flat in same folder. Original place in notebook recorded on v.
