Trench Supervisor Notebook for Tomb of Clytemnestra threshold, House of the Warrior Vase graves and Tsountas House, compiled by Marigold (Kat) Pakenham-Walsh. Daily account of excavations, includes rough sketch plans and section drawings. Summary, arranged in date order, of progress excavating Upper Room Gamma written by Barbara Craig on f. 56r. and end paper. Personal jottings by Kat Pakenham-Walsh on the end paper include transliterating her and Dorothea Gray's names into Greek script.

Biographical / Historical

Marigold (known as Kat) Pakenham-Walsh (1930-2017) read Classics at Newnham, becoming Senior Student, and participated in archaeological digs in Greece before she pursued a life-long career in the administration of education. She was key to the merger of Bedford and Royal Holloway Colleges (RHBC) and became a Fellow of RHBC. In the 1960s and 1970s she owned a farm in Horsham with a herd of Jersey cows, all individually named by Kat. Her obituary in the RHBC alumni magazine sums her up thus: 'Marigold was intelligent, well-read, always interested in the wider world and unfailingly unflappable and cheerful'.
