Book draft - 'Helladika', 1918 - 2010
Scope and Contents
Typescript and manuscript versions of chapters of the unpublished work Helladika, authored by AJB Wace and Carl Blegen, arranged by Elizabeth French in the early 2000s into chronological order of writing. The texts progress from the original title, 'The Pottery of Mycenae', which dates to around 1918, to the revised title of 'Helladika', which was probably introduced during the late 1920s.
Also included are leaves of handwritten and typescript notes by Wace on pottery types and annotated loose leaves of printed-out emails between Dr Lisa French and the American School of Classical Archaeolgy in Athens.
Finally, there are 46 original gouache watercolour and ink drawings of pottery, the majority if not all by Piet de Jong albeit unsigned by him, to have served as the illustrations for the potential but unrealised publication.
