Letter from James Stewart in Sydney re plans for his forthcoming trip to Asia Minor and Cyprus, 1935-08-19
Scope and Contents
Adressed and dated 'Sydney. 19 Aug', the year, as deduced from the letter's contents, is1935.
Stewart thanks AJBW for his letter and describes a tense situation with his step mother which potentially jeopardises his future financial independence. He discusses networking and fundraising for future digs in Asia Minor. He mentions an invitation form Noel Wheeler to visit the latter in Cyprus. Stewart is interested in the early Bronze Age pottery of Jortan (Yortan, in the valley of Bakir Cai (Kaikos) in western Turkey) and Woolley's theories on Anatolian influences in Bronze Age Levantine pottery. Stewart would welcome AJBW's opinion on such theories. Finally, he mentions 'Miss Coutts joining up forces' in Constantinople. This may refer to Mercy Money-Coutts.
AJBW jotted four words on the verso of the second leaf of the letter.
