Scope and Contents
Hellenistic bridge in Xerokambi near Kalamata, Messenia. Four men stand inthe background, one or more dressed in fustanella.
"XEROKAMBI
Possibly Harpleia (Paus. iii. 20. 7), as is conjectured in BSA xvi. 67. The famous polygonal bridge, said by Leak to be Roman (BSA xvi. 67, quoting Leake, Peloponnesia I I 7), may in fact be Hellenistic. Local tradition holds th it was by way of this bridge that Paris abducted Helen t Gythion en route for Troy", Waterhouse, H., & Simpson, R. (1960). Prehistoric Laconia: Part I.
