Physical Description

Hard back photograph album, oatmeal-coloured linen covers, elastic fabric band attached to the exterior of the front cover as a closure mechanism. H. 25.3cm x W. 335.7cm.
The text block is composed of leaves of heavy paper which are brittle and yellowing. Each page is now interleaved with a sheet of archival tissue paper.
Each leaf of the text has monochrome, gelatin silver, positive prints pasted only to the recto of the page, usually in groups of four or more prints, the majorit of which measure 10.8 x 6 cm, in both landscape and portrait orientations. The theme of a group of images is written by AJB at the top left of the recto, additionally he often individually titles each print underneath it, all written by hand in pencil. The prints progress chronologically through the album in the order they were taken.
Some of the prints are extremely faded.


11 celluloid negatives, 11 cm x 6.5 cm, 1 fragment of an original photography envelope, stamped 'Opticien Athénes', annotated in pencil by AJBW, 'Films, Jan, Feb, 1915, Olynthus etc', all stored in 3 polyester sleeves at the front of the albumn.
