Demetrias. S. Magnesia. Skiathos. Skopelos, April 1905
Scope and Contents
Notes made on a journey Wace took with van Buren in April 1905, through the Magnesian peninsula of Thessaly, Greece and on to the islands of Skiathos and Skopelos in the Northern Sporades. In Magnesia he made notes on archaeological, topographical and architectural features, including Byzantine churches, encountered at Demetrias, Iolcus-Episkope [modern Volos], Pagasae, Dimini, Milies, Neleia, Korope, Neochori, Argelaste (Leiphokastro) and Olizon. On Skopelos, in addition to noting Byzantine churches and scattered archaeological remnants such as sarcophagoi, he made notes and sketches on local embroideries.
Includes sketch plans, drawings, and copies of inscriptions.
Also notes on objects at Chalcis Museum.
