Letter from Dimitris Theocharis re excavations and objects at Sesklo, 1956-11-15
Scope and Contents
He thanks AJBW for donating his book on prehistoric Thessaly to the museum at Volos. He has now dug at Sesklo and found under the buildings discovered by Tsountas a pit containing the earliest Neolithic pottery. Earlier layers still contain no pottery but bone tools i.e. Mesolithic material. Milojcic has found similar at Argissa. He says this confirms Wace's instinct about the existence of indigenous Neolithic origins. He intends to search for Mesolithic finds in Attica and on the island of Skyros.
