Letter from AJBW to Ernst Meyer re Meyer's work on Schliemann's correspondence, 1957-01-09
Scope and Contents
AJBW discusses a notice he has written about Meyer's work on Schliemann. He offers several comments on Meyer's work and says that Meyer has done a great service to Schliemann's memory. He replies to Meyer's question about experts who 'overawed' Schliemann, listing several possible contenders (including Percy Gardner, A. S. Murray, and Stephani). Wace then discusses the frescoes found by Schliemann at Mycenae and emphasises the continuity between pre-classical and classical art. He ends with details of his travel plans and regret at Ventris' death.
