Biographical / Historical

Coetlogon was born in London in 1746. He was educated at Christ’s Hospital and in 1766 obtained a university exhibition. He matriculated at Pembroke College the same year, graduating with his BA in 1770 as a Wrangler. He received the MA in 1773. In 1770 he was ordained as a deacon at Canterbury, and in 1772 as a priest. He became an assistant chaplain at Lock’s Hospital where he was known as an eloquent preacher. He was the author of several religious works, and died at Blackfriars in 1820, aged 74.
