Biographical / Historical

Charles Booth was the son of Roger of Mollington, Cheshire. He was Treasurer of Lichfield from 1490-1516 and Prebendary of Hereford in 1490. He held several further ecclesiastical appointments including Vicar-General of Lincoln, Prebendary of Lincoln, Archdeacon of Buckinghamshire, Prebendary of St Paul's, culminating in his appointment as Bishop of Hereford in 1516. He died on the 5th May 1535 and is buried at Hereford. He was a benefactor to Pembroke College. Laurence (also Lawrence) Booth was born c. 1420. He attended Pembroke College, taking degrees in both civil and canon law by 1448. In 1450, although not a fellow, he was admitted as Master of Pembroke, a role he held until his death in 1480.
