Biographical / Historical

Bethune-Baker came up to Pembroke from King Edward's School in 1881. He gained firsts in Classics and Theology and won the George Williams, Burney and Norrisian Prizes. He was ordained in 1888 and was then elected a Fellow of Pembroke College in 1891. He was also Dean of the College. He resigned from the office of Dean in 1906 but remained a Fellow of the College for the rest of his life. He was Lady Margaret's Professor of Divinity at the University of Cambridge from 1911 to 1935. He was the author of many theological works. See also 'Adventures with authors' by S. C.
