Biographical / Historical

Le Blond was born in 1869, in Norbiton, Surrey. He attended King Alfred’s School, Wantage. He matriculated at Pembroke College in 1892 and received his BA in 1895. In 1900, he married Elizabeth Alice Frances Le Blond (née Hawkins-Whitshed), a successful mountaineer and photographer who pioneered women’s climbing, skating, and travelling. In 1912 Le Blond travelled with Elizabeth to various countries in East Asia, where in Korea he acquired the pottery he would later donate to the Victoria and Albert Museum. He died in 1951.
