Higgins came up to Pembroke in 1935. A 2nd Lieutenant in the Queen Victoria Rifles, he was taken prisioner of war in the Second World War. Upon his return ot England he resumed his archaeological work, becoming Keeper of Greek and Roman Antiquities at the British Museum. He was also Chairman of the Managing Committee of the British School at Athens from 1975 to 1979.
