Biographical / Historical

Samuel Allen was admitted pensioner to Pembroke College in 1816, having previously attended Merchant Taylor's School. Although he gained a scholarship and exhibition at Pembroke, he did not take the tripos. After Pembroke, he was Chaplain to Lord de Tabley and sometime Head Master of the Free Grammar School, Burnley, Lancashire. He was described as a learned antiquary and a clever draftsman.
