Biographical / Historical

Arthur Bliss was an English composer and conductor. He attended Rugby School and then came up to Pembroke College to study Classics and Music. He graduated BA and MusB in 1913. He later studied at the Royal College of Music. He served with distinction in the First World War, being mentioned in despatches. He was a renowned composer and in 1953 was appointed master of the queen's music in 1953, He was knighted in 1950.
