1 manuscript letter from Jones to Wilcockson, 1963-09-23

 Item
Reference Code: GBR/1058/WIC/1/7

Scope and Contents

The letter, sent from Northwick Lodge, Harrow on the Hill, talks about Jones's health over the past year and congratulates Wilcockson on getting his book accepted by Macmillan [possibly 'Selections from Piers Plowman', edited with an introduction and notes by Colin Wilcockson, 1965]. Jones wishes Wilcockson was with him to discuss language and notes he is trying to learn a little more Welsh and Latin. Jones also talks of 'The Dream of the Rood' poem he had recently heard on the radio. Later in the letter Jones remarks that both his books: 'In Parenthesis' and 'The Anathemata' have been published in America and that plates Jones did for 'The Ancient Mariner' are going to be used in a fine press edition which he is writing an accompanying monograth for. Jones says that René Hague has been to visit and that he has moved to Ireland so Jones does not see him now and that he misses his friends as he gets older. He also refers to a poem by Tom Scott (mentioned in a previous letter) and comments on a piece in the Gospel of St. Luke as translated by Wycliffe.
