Appropriation of the Church of Coton, 1476-05-25
Scope and Contents
A charter of appropriation of the church of Coton was grated to the Master and Fellows by Edward IV, on the condition that they should provide a suitable chaplain for the ministration of the sacraments and sacramentals, and distribute yearly among the poor of the parish a certain portion, to be determined by the Bishop. The charter recites that the Master and Fellows were already possessed of one acre of land in Coton together with the advowson and patronage of the parish church belonging to the said acre, and empowers them to appropriate the said parish church to their own uses for ever.
