Letter from H. Jackson, 20 Union Street, Deptford, 1836-07-11
Scope and Contents
The writer explains that he has recently heard of an eligible situation as tutor to Captain Clark's 13 and 14 year old sons and in reply to their enquiries stated that he had recently passed his BA exams with credit and that he was fully competent to teach Classics and Mathematics. As a consequence he thought it likely they would approach Corrie on the subject. He then adds that he also received a letter from an Incumbent saying he felt disposed to grant him Title and wished to know his religious views and that while being a clergyman would enable him to do more than a mere tutor, if he was required to be a curate of evangelical principles then he would probably not be appointed. He concludes by asking Corrie to give appropriate testimony to Mr Clark if he writes to ask for it.
