Letter from F.B. Danby, Catharine Hall, 1835-07
Scope and Contents
In this interesting letter the writer reports on his time working in the library saying he has done all he can for this period and that the rest will have to done at intervals. He then details the problems he has encountered such as a lack of F's for classifying that section - more alphabets needing to be printed; too many books missing under the H's to make classifying worthwhile, but he has lettered all of the stray books. He then suggests that the Bookbinders need to add alum to their paste to prevent attacks from worms and that they should be more careful when copying names as there are some awkward mistakes in some of the recently bound volumes for which he gives examples. He then details the worm damage done to several volumes including Chap 9 of Melanathon stating that he had washed it over with a solution of Sublimate. He comments that he hopes blinds will be fitted to the Court windows to prevent sun damage to the books. He concludes by saying that he asked Brown to provide Corrie with the Catalogue and that he hopes to conclude the work in the October term.
