Donald Portway’s launch at the 1962 Bumps, 1962-06
Scope and Contents
Photograph taken by T. Prifti after he had come down. Portway used to hire this launch each year, filling it with family, friends and Fellows. He used to park it strategically so that friends of the College could drop in for a chat and a drink. At the front on the far side is Mrs Portway (with hat), his daughter and behind Donald who is at the wheel is Norman Elliott, an Honorary Fellow of the College and behind him at the back is a the Economics Professor "Chuggy" Cook 'whose lefty opinions were always challenging and usually turned out to be wrong'. Norman Elliott was Stepfather to Mr Prifti's Best Man,Simon Clarke, who went up to Cambridge due to Prifti's encouragement and played Rugby for Cambridge and England and who is kneeling with his back to the camera.
