Scope and Contents

Old E Staircase, dating from c. 1674-1677, was demolished in 1964 with the building work that created the development on the northern part of the Island Site. The student rooms created where E staircase stood were simply known as E.

Biographical / Historical

The Court contained access to the Senior Combination Room, built in 1932 and demolished in 1965, a walnut tree which was planted in the 18th century and cut down to prepare for the new buildings in Dec 1964 and the Old Library Staircase which dated from . 1674-77. This too was demolished for the new building in July 1965 and the oak banisters of the staircase were incorporated into the new Hall staircase, 1967. [Notes by S. C. Aston, Bursar, Dec 1975].
