Twenty-two letters signed from Joseph Pickford at Royton, near Rochdale, to CP. Discusses books, news of people, etc. Significantly, discussion of card/carding engines and parts, including one small sketch with description of function (letter --). Most postmarked Rochdale, a few Manchester; some with applied seals surviving.

Biographical / Historical
Joseph Pickford (1744-1819) of Royton Hall, later created Sir Joseph Radcliffe, 1st Baronet, of Milnsbridge in the county of York. Huddersfield Magistrate. Pickford inherited his maternal uncle, William Radcliffe's, property in 1795, with the stipulation that he should take his surname.
