Part of the Ramsden Estate, see EST/RAM also. Norton Priory: For the period down to the Ramsden benefaction the College has the title deeds from 1663, and a few papers relating to a Chancery suit involving Mrs Ramsden's claim to the Manor under her marriage settlement. These end with the conveyance of 21 August 10 Geo. 2 (1736/7) from Elizabeth Randall (daughter and her of James Ramsden) to Mrs Mary Ramsden of the Manor and Manor House of Norton or Norton Priory with various appurtenances. In 29 Geo. 2 (1755/6) the College appears to have procured a private act of Parliament which empowered it, inter alia, to pull down Norton Hall (a ruinous edifice with 35 rooms) and use the materials to build a farmhouse. The College sold all it's land at Norton between 1936 and 1952.
