The first letter is from Terence English, the Master, to John Shakeshaft, the Fellow Librarian regarding a report brought by Eilis Ferran to the Education Committee about the noise and poor lighting in the Library. The suggestion is that these factors contributed towards the poor performance of the students sitting the Part II Law Tripos. The second letter is from the Librarian to the Master with replies to each of the points made and includes a copy of Lighting Recommendations for Specific Interiors/Activities from CIBS Code 1984, p.50-51 which includes libraries.
