STEPHENSON COLLECTION, 1949 - 1951
Scope and Contents
Includes photos of Freshers 1949, Science Club 1951 and the Sedgwick Club, copies of the College Calendar, Varsity, newscuttings relating to the Boat Club, papers from various College and University clubs and societies, exam papers, theatre programmes, dinner menus and two college blazers. Some of the papers had been housed in a small, brown suitcase which has been retained.

Biographical / Historical
Alan Russell Stephenson (SE 1949) died in 2017. He attended Bromsgrove High School and then undertook National Service before taking up a place at Selwyn in 1947 to read Natural Sciences. While there he was sacristan in the Chapel and enjoyed playing hockey for the 2nd XI, supported College and University theatre and was a member of the Sedgewick club. He then went on to gain his teaching qualification at Trinity College Oxford.
After Oxford, he taught at Repton School and later in 1959 he travelled abroad to work for the West African Schools Examination Council. A full obituary is available in the Selwyn College Calendar for 2017-2018 https://issuu.com/sel-alum/docs/selwyn_college_calendar_2017-18/3
