Biographical / Historical
Wilfrid Ingham (1889-1952) was born on 25th June 1889 and passed the entrance exhibition for Classics from St Peter's School, York to Selwyn in 1908. He was awarded a scholarship in 1910 and then a second class honours in Classics 1911. He remained in residence for two more years until gaining an additional second class in the Theological Tripos in 1913. He was captain of the College hockey team and won colours for rugby. He entered teaching before the war. During the war he served with the Army Service Corps (ASC) (MT) and XXIst Battalion Tank Corps but was wounded. He continued teaching after the war and became an active and successful master of several schools, including Collingwood School, Wallington. He died at Wallington in September 1952.
